Buttery Apple Crumble

The success of this dessert depends on the quality of the apples. Use new season Granny Smiths when they are tart and full of flavour. You can vary the crumble by using other fruits such as rhubarb.


4 large Granny Smith apples

2-3 tbsp sugar

juice and rind of 1 lemon

1/4 cup water


1/2 cup plain wholemeal flour

2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar


2 tbsp chopped walnuts (optional)


1Peel, core and thinly slice apples then place in a deep oven proof dish.

2Sprinkle over sugar, lemon rind and juice, and water.

3To make topping, place flour, cinnamon and sugar in bowl and blend in NUTTELEX

4Mix in nuts if used and dot apples with mix.

5Bake at 160°C for 40-45 minutes or until apples are soft and topping is crunchy.
