Halloween Web Pancakes

Family fun for halloween breakfast or brunch. While witches hats and ghosts are fun shapes too, and a bit easier, these webs are worth the effort. Serve with maple syrup, ice cream or simply the berries with a sprinkling of sugar and lemon juice. #MakeMineWithPlantBasedNuttelex


1/4 cup plant based Nuttelex butter (60g)

2 cups plain flour

1/4 cup sugar or sweetener

4 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

440 ml milk

2 tsp pure vanilla extract

1 large egg

1 punnet black berries to garnish plus ¼ teaspoon hundreds and thousands for eyes

Maple syrup, ice cream or frozen yoghurt to serve

1 piping bay or freezer bag with corner slipped- to pipe the pancake batter into shape on the pan


1Combine together the flour, sugar (or sweetener), baking powder, baking soda and salt in a large-sized bowl.

2Make a well in the centre and add the milk, slightly cooled melted Nuttelex, vanilla and egg.

3Whisk the wet ingredients together before slowly folding in the dry ingredients. Mix together until smooth (there may be a couple of lumps but that's okay).

4If you find the batter too thick simply fold a couple tablespoons of extra milk into the batter at a time until reaching desired consistency keeping in mind you are going to use a piping bag to pipe the shape.

5 Set the batter aside and allow to rest while heating up your pan or griddle.

6Cut 1/4-inch hole in one bottom corner of a piping or freezer bag. For each pancake, gently squeeze bag to release approx 2 tablespoons of batter onto hot griddle in 4-inch spider web shape. To get a good looking web daw an X then add a cross through it . This gives you eight “prongs” then connect by drawing wobbly weblike circles over it. Witches hats and ghosts are fun shapes too.

7Cook 1 to 2 minutes or until pancakes are puffed and dry around edges. Turn pancakes; cook about 1 minute longer or until other side is golden brown.

8Repeat with remaining batter.

9Plate up with a couple of fresh blackberries on each pancake - insert hundred and thousands for a pair of eyes on each berry. Serve with honey, maple syrup, fruit, ice cream or frozen yoghurt, or enjoy plain with a sprinkle of lemon and sugar.
